How it works
Generation uses crypto.randomUUID and requires a compatible browser in a secure context, such as HTTPS or localhost. Random UUIDs make collisions unlikely, but they do not mathematically guarantee uniqueness.
550e8400-e29b-41d4-a716-446655440000 is an example v4 UUID: 32 hexadecimal digits separated by four hyphens. Generate a fresh identifier for your use rather than reusing this example.
Common questions
What does version 4 mean?
It is the UUID variant based on random data. The first character of the third group is 4, while other bits identify the UUID format.
Does the UUID contain my name, the time, or my device address?
A v4 UUID generated by this tool does not incorporate those details. It is created locally using the browser's randomness API.
Can I use a UUID as a password or proof of authorization?
An identifier distinguishes records. Systems that need authentication or authorization must check those permissions separately, even when they use UUIDs in URLs or databases.
