Reading time
Estimate how long a text will take to read and adjust the words-per-minute speed to match your pace.
How to use
- Paste or write the text you want to measure; the estimate updates automatically.
- Adjust the speed between 50 and 1000 words per minute to represent your reading pace.
- Check the estimated time alongside the word count. To compare reading speeds, change the speed while keeping the same text.
How it works
The estimate divides the word count by your chosen speed. Content difficulty, pauses, images, and familiarity with the subject can change the actual time.
A 450-word text takes about 2 minutes at 225 words per minute. At 150 words per minute, the estimate increases to 3 minutes.
Common questions
Which reading speed should I choose?
Use your own pace as a reference. Time yourself reading a passage, divide its word count by the minutes spent, and enter that value to personalize the estimate.
Can I use the estimate for reading aloud?
Yes, if you adjust the speed to your speaking pace. A presentation often includes pauses and explanations that are absent from the text, so allow time for them.
Does the result include time to understand or review the text?
The tool does not assess text difficulty. For studying, editing, or technical material, reduce the speed and allow extra time for notes and rereading.
