Image compressor
Adjust an image to try to reduce its file size before sharing or publishing it.
How to use
- Choose a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image up to 20 MB and 12 megapixels.
- Select the output format and maximum width and height. For WebP or JPEG, adjust quality; that control does not apply to PNG.
- Click Compress image and compare the preview, dimensions, and file size. Use Download image if the result meets your needs.
How it works
The reduction depends on the image and settings; already optimized files may shrink very little or become larger.
An example
To upload a photo to a form with a 1 MB limit, compress the file and check whether the result is below that limit.
Common questions
Can compression affect visual quality?
Yes. Lossy compression can remove detail or create visible artifacts. Check the preview before using the result.
Does a smaller file have fewer pixels?
Not necessarily. You can reduce the size in bytes without changing the width and height; resizing changes those dimensions.
