Base64 encoder & decoder

Encode UTF-8 text as Base64 or turn valid Base64 back into text, including accented characters and emoji.

How to use

  1. Paste the UTF-8 text you want to encode or the Base64 you want to turn back into text.
  2. Choose Encode to produce Base64 or Decode to recover text. The operation displays its result separately from the input.
  3. Review the result and use Copy. If decoding fails, check that the content is complete and represents UTF-8 text.

How it works

Base64 is a reversible encoding, not encryption. This tool works with UTF-8 text and does not open files or arbitrary binary content. The output is usually larger than the original data.

An example

The text “Olá” encodes as T2zDoQ==. Decoding that Base64 as UTF-8 restores “Olá”.

Common questions

Can I protect a password with Base64?

No. Anyone with the Base64 can decode it without a key. Use the service's appropriate mechanisms for storing or transmitting confidential information.

Why might decoding fail?

The input may contain invalid characters or padding, be incomplete, or represent bytes that do not form valid UTF-8 text. Base64 for an image or another file does not necessarily represent text.

Why does “Olá” become a longer sequence?

Base64 represents each group of up to three bytes with four characters. Accented letters can use more than one UTF-8 byte, and equals signs pad the final group when needed.
